SPECIAL  EDUCATIONAL  NEEDS

Our policy states:

'We respect every child's individual needs and, to that end, our aim
is to provide access to a broad and balanced curriculum for those
pupils with special education needs.'

We have regular contact and support from:

* Learning Support Services
* Psychological Services
* Health Services
* Social Services

Early identification of special needs leads to assessment and appropriate intervention, with parents  contacted regularly at all stages.

LEA CURRICULUM STATEMENT

A copy of the LEA's curriculum statement is held within the school and is available for inspection by parents.

TEACHING  STYLES

The teaching style adopted is dependent upon the task set.  Styles will vary according to the objectives of the lesson.  These might be whole class, group work or working individually on tasks.

The introduction of the National Literacy Strategy and the Numeracy Strategy have ensured ongoing development of teaching and learning styles for staff and children.

SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS EDUCATION  POLICY

Our policy states:

'The sensitive nature of sex education is acknowledged.  Within the
primary school, it is essential that care is taken to present knowledge
to children at the correct stage in their emotional and physical development.'

Also, 'it can be expected that work in the local natural environment can be
used as a starting point for the study of life cycles.  Sex education will arise
as part of wider programmes of study.'

'In their health programme Year 5 and Year 6 children are addressed by the school nurse...'

'Within our school family, the guiding principle should be to answer children's questions as they arise in a natural and honest way.  Every opportunity that  occurs should be used to ensure the dawning of an understanding which is developmental and celebrates the wonders of life.'

A full copy of our Sex and Relationships Education Policy is available for
inspection.

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from the talk given by the school nurse.
