SCHOOL UNIFORM  POLICY

The children have to dress in an appropriate manner for school, dressing for work rather than for leisure.  Where the curriculum dictates the need for a change of clothing, for example
physical education, appropriate clothing is to be worn.

The governing body, having consulted with the parents, consider that a school uniform benefits the school and the children.  We believe:

*  it encourages pride in the school;
*  it prevents discrimination and  ostentatious displays;
*  it reduces peer group pressure;
*  it ensures there is less room for confrontation at home about what should be worn for school;
*  it makes children easier to identify when on school visits.

The governing body and the headteacher hope that parents will support them fully in the implementation of this policy.

Boys' uniform                            Girls' uniform
white/grey shirt                            white blouse
grey trousers                                grey pinafore dress/skirt
'school' red or jade sweatshirt      grey 'uniform' trousers
grey socks                                    'school' red or jade cardigan
                                                                   or sweatshirt
                                                    white/grey socks
                   dark coloured shoes (not trainers)

In summer, the boys are allowed to wear short sleeved white, grey or red shirts.  'Polo' shirts are a comfortable alternative during the summer months.  Grey tailored shorts are preferable to long trousers.

For the girls, a red and white, or yellow and white, gingham (checked) or striped dress is the
accepted  policy, together with white socks.

Top junior girls must wear skirts of appropriate length.  'Mini' skirts are not acceptable.

Trainers are not acceptable as footwear to be worn throughout the day; so please ensure your son/daughter comes to school in their school shoes each day.  Trainers are their change of shoes for games or when playing on the field at break times.

Sandals are an acceptable form of footwear, but a word of caution is given regarding open toed sandals, as these have been known to cause children to trip and take quite a nasty fall.  Careful consideration should be given to the type of shoes worn by girls.  Chunky heeled shoes and those with platform soles throw the spine out of balance as well as changing the shape of growing feet and not for the better.

Physical Education Activities

A change of clothes is necessary for PE/games on health and safety grounds.

For PE/dance/drama the kit required is a plain white or red 'T' shirt together with white/red/dark coloured shorts. Designer 'T' shirts and 'jazzy' shorts are not acceptable.  For outdoor activities appropriate footwear should be worn.  A plain jogging suit is recommended for junior games' lessons during the winter months.

Games' kit for juniors:
- soccer and summer sports  require a PE kit, as suggested above
- netball and other games' activities as for PE
- swimming - regulations at the swimming baths require that all children
   should wear a cap.  (Caps can be bought at school.)

School soccer and netball strips are available for team members to wear. All clothes must be
labelled.
This is extremely important.  The number of items in lost property is unbelievable.  Please check with Mrs Morris (our caretaker) if something has gone astray.  She is very understanding and will help if she can.
